The MSR Guardian Purifier Pump is built for serious adventures where clean water really matters. It’s one of the most trusted water treatment systems available for wild camping and trekking and remote trips where taps and shops are nowhere nearby
Originally developed to meet demanding military-grade requirements, the Guardian is designed to remove viruses, bacteria, protozoa and particulates from questionable water sources, helping turn rivers, streams (and less-than-glamorous puddles), into safer drinking water.
This is not just something we picked because it sounds impressive. The Guardian purifier and MSR Dromedary bag are part of the kit we take out ourselves. A 10-litre water bag might seem excessive at first, but for two people it quickly makes sense: drinking water, cooking water, brews, washing up and a bit of backup. It means you can properly stock up when you find a source, rather than constantly rationing and just getting by.
Together, the purifier and bag weigh around 770g – less than the weight of carrying an extra litre of water. The difference is that with this setup, you can collect and treat much more as you go.
